FAQs

The key difference between a Christian therapist and a regular therapist lies in the integration of faith and spirituality into the therapeutic process. While both types of therapists are licensed professionals trained in mental health, Christian therapists specifically incorporate a Christian worldview and may draw upon spiritual resources like prayer, scripture, and biblical principles to guide their practice, if the client desires.

You’re welcome to come just as you are; there’s no perfect way to prepare. Whether you’re showing up for therapy or coaching, this is a space rooted in grace, growth, and intentional support.

You may find it helpful to take a few quiet moments beforehand to reflect, pray, or jot down any thoughts, emotions, or goals that have been on your mind. Consider what in your day to day has felt challenging lately, what’s going well, or where you are seeking clarity or change. For coaching sessions, think about specific areas of your life you would like to grow in, such as mindset, purpose, relationships, and/or direction.

And if you’re not sure where to start, that’s okay too. We will meet you where you are and move forward together with faith, focus, and compassion.

Your first few sessions will give you, your partner, and your therapist an opportunity to get to know each other and determine if you are a good fit and if couples therapy is appropriate. You will be asked some questions about your background and goals for therapy. You will also have the opportunity to learn more about the therapy process, as well as discuss a plan for treatment. If for some reason you and your therapist are not the right fit, you will be provided with trusted referrals.

While life coaching and therapy both aim to support an individual’s overall well-being, they differ significantly in focus, methodology, and clinical scope.

Life coaching is a strengths-based, future-oriented process that emphasizes personal development, goal setting, and the pursuit of greater fulfillment and success. It is not clinical in nature and does not involve the diagnosis or treatment of mental health conditions. Instead, coaching supports individuals in identifying their values, clarifying their vision, and taking actionable steps toward personal and professional goals.

Therapy (also referred to as mental health counseling or psychotherapy) is a clinical service that addresses psychological and emotional challenges, including trauma, anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. Therapy often involves exploring past experiences, identifying patterns, and developing healthier coping strategies to support healing and psychological well-being.

While both approaches provide meaningful and supportive spaces for growth, therapy is guided by mental health professionals trained to address diagnosable conditions, whereas coaching is focused on maximizing potential in individuals who are not seeking clinical treatment. Choosing between the two depends on your specific needs, goals, and whether mental health concerns are present.

At MCV we understand that life happens and for this reason your first cancellation is free of charge. After the first cancellation, any session cancelled or rescheduled less than 48 hours will incur a full session fee.

If you arrive more than 10 minutes late for a scheduled appointment, the appointment will be considered a “No Show” and will need to be rescheduled.

Your session content and all relevant materials to treatment will be held confidential unless the client requests in writing to have content released to a specifically named person, such as another medical provider. There are very few limitations of client held privilege of confidentiality, such as harm to oneself or others. In the case of minors, confidentiality is equally as important and is discussed with parents/guardians in advance of treatment.

Sliding Scale Fee
At this time mental health services are offered on a self-pay/private pay basis. We do not currently accept insurance. At MCV, we believe that mental health and coaching services should be accessible to those in need. To help make care more affordable, we offer a limited number of sliding scale appointments based on income, financial hardship, or other individual circumstances.
Our sliding scale fees are designed to accommodate clients who may not be able to pay the full session rate due to life situations such as:
• Temporary financial hardship
• Limited or fixed income
• Lack of insurance coverage
• Major life transitions
Sliding scale availability is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. To be considered, clients may be asked to complete a brief financial disclosure form during the intake process.
If you are interested in exploring a sliding scale option, please let us know during your initial consultation or contact us directly. We are committed to working with you to find a fee that is manageable while maintaining the integrity and quality of care.

Superbills & Reimbursement
If you wish to use your out-of-network insurance benefits, we can provide a monthly superbill (detailed receipt) upon request. You may submit this to your insurance provider for possible partial reimbursement. Please note that reimbursement is not guaranteed and varies by plan.
We recommend calling your insurance provider to ask:
• Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health counseling?
• What percentage of the fee will be reimbursed?
• Is a diagnosis required for reimbursement?
